About Us
The Goodwill Homes Head Start program is located at 4590 Goodwill Rd., Memphis, TN 38109. The Head Start program is a part of Goodwill Homes Community Services, Inc., agency which has served the southwest Shelby County community for nearly fifty years. Since 2001, Goodwill Homes Head Start has been a delegate agency of Shelby County Government Head Start Program.
Goodwill Homes Head Start is funded for one hundred (100) children. In 2007, we established a partnership with the Memphis City Schools Tennessee Voluntary Pre-K Program by serving one classroom with a dual enrollment (Head Start and Pre-K) of twenty children. Our success is a combination of a dedicated staff, involved parents, and active community partners all supporting our MISSION to empower children, families and staff through the process of learning that will enable them to become life-long learners.
Our staff consist of twenty-two full-time staff and the assistance of a nutrition and mental health consultant. Our core hours of operation are 7:30 am - 2:30 pm. (Monday - Friday). Extended hours (7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) are offered to families identified as needing services, before and after our core hours.
Our program goals are based, in part, on Head Start's philosophy of meeting the needs of children in all areas of development and providing support and assistance to their families. Parents are provided the opportunity to participate in all phases of the Head Start Program which includes, volunteering, serving on parent or policy committees, the agency's board, and participating in program planning.
